Dufferin Marsh Nature Connection Logo

Dufferin Marsh Nature Connection

The Dufferin Marsh is a 5 ha natural area located in the centre of the Village of Schomberg steps from the downtown Main Street.  It is a remnant feature of the Schomberg River isolated when the river was channelized in the 1800’s.   Through natural processes and man-made influences the old river bed developed into a wetland.  The land was historically used for farming and was bisected by the Schomberg and Aurora Railway in 1902.  Through the years the Marsh has flourished despite adjacent development.

The Dufferin Marsh Nature Connection is a crew of committed individuals that care about the Dufferin Marsh and the community of Schomberg.  We believe that a healthy ecosystem translates to a healthy community.  We are very concerned about the growing disassociation of people from nature, and work to provide opportunities for people to reconnect through events, workshops, restoration projects and citizen science activities.

The Lions fundraise at events such as the Annual Pancake Breakfast, A Main Street Christmas, and local community social evenings.  The money they raise goes right back into thecommunity, by monetarily supporting local youth sports teams, community projects and youth camps such as the Bob Rumball Camp of the Deaf and the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre.
